Deanna Lewis
(Northwest High School ‘03)
1st Choice College: Cincinnati School of Medical Massage
Intended Major: Massage Therapy
GPA:  3.16 (as of 4/11/03)

Deanna is an admirable teenager who has undergone several eye correction surgeries.    She was 3 years old when she had her first surgery and was diagnosed with Glaucoma when she was just 10 years old.  As Deanna puts it, she has had more surgeries than birthdays.  Her latest surgery was performed in April this past spring where she underwent a Corneal Transplant.  In the midst of all the hardships she has endured, Deanna has risen to the occasion.  She has been able to work part-time, dedicate her time to community service and volunteer work, as well as tutoring fellow students.  She has also managed to remain an excellent student throughout her high school career.   May her story be an inspiration to all of us!

Tillie Nicole Thomsen
(Lakota East High School ‘03)
College:  Miami University
Intended Major:  Pre-Med.
GPA:  3.21

Tillie wrote us an interesting essay!  She spoke of her desire to save lives and her interest in Oncology.  She wrote of a dream that includes Medical School and becoming a doctor.  The most interesting thing about her essay:  The parts she left out almost entirely.  Tillie & her family have triumphed over many personal struggles the rest of us couldn’t even imagine.  This day in age, many teenagers have become a product of their environment.  Tillie is the exception.  She has proved that good does come out on top!  She is and exceptional student, Vice President of the Science Club, a member of student government, the Spanish club, and captain of the Swim team.  We hope her optimism and love of life and people is contagious to all she comes in contact with.

Sara A. Morner
(Badin High School ‘03)
College:  Ohio State University
Intended Major:  Education
GPA:  3.4

Sara has been involved with several clubs.  She has been a member of (PRIDE), History Club, Envirothon Team, Faith Leadership Team and has been involved in (DECA), worked at Summer Basketball camps, she was a Peer Mentor….  The list goes on.  Sara may study Secondary Education to make a difference in the lives of others, just as a former grammar school teacher made a difference in her life.  A year and a half ago, an accident happened that could have put Sara’s life on hold indefinitely.  She was shot in the eye with a BB gun and can no longer see out of her left eye.  She was bedridden and out of school for a month.  With the support of teachers & friends and her own strong will - she has been able to maintain her excellent grades even in her Advanced Placement classes.  A classic case of triumph over tragedy!  We honor your hard work and dedication.
